Alleycat At Neo 2024
In 2024 things really started to get interesting. We gave ourselves some new constraints for our PDN MKII. Instead of two different devices each hardcoded to their role, we chose to make one that could be made a hunter or bounty device. No more burned in design hooks that identify it as a bounty or hunter device. Instead, we convey that through lighting choices. We also added a very small screen and added a second button. We wanted a device we could grow into and modify the game mechanics without having to reinvent the wheel for design and manufacturing. This was also the first year we started designing our own circuit boards.
The software for the PDN MKII has been made open source by us and we are now collaborating with people all over the country. This brought our lead engineer, Elli Furedy, to speak at Hackaday Supercon. We are now working with the event organizers to develop an NFC protocol to help people make things that will be accessible to all and take the event to a place where we forget about our little black mirrors for just a few days of connection with likeminded makers.
